[ He responds quicker than she thought he would, pleasantly surprised. For a moment, she smiles into her pillow before composing a response. ]
Sounds like you need coffee :) Hope I didn't wake you.
I'm actually not that bad. I was a good girl and had plenty of water before bed. [ She's learnt from past experience the tricks to lessening her hangovers. Not to mention, hearing from Rick is quite the pick-me-up, so it's impossible for her to feel lousy from alcohol right now. ]
[ Playing it cool never really occurred to Rick and in all honesty he had never been too skilled with it. Shane knew how to flirt and work people into a frenzy with carefully placed words. He tended to keep honest and fairly blunt. Plus, it never occurred to him to play it cool with Beth. ]
No, no, didn't wake me.
Could use some coffee, though.
Probably should have drank more water last night.
[ A smile touched his lips as he stared down at the phone. ]
[ It's easy to misread playing it cool as not being interested, so it's probably a good thing Rick doesn't act that way towards Beth. Life's too short to play games like that, in Beth's opinion. ]
I know a pretty good coffee house near where I live.
[ She's not rubbing that in his face. It's a hint. ]
[ Lucky for Beth, Rick understood the hint or at least thought he did. Rolling out if bed, he let out a groan as he started to get ready. He needed to remember to take it easier next time. ]
I can meet you there in fifteen if that sounds good to you?
[ Luckily Beth wasn't one of those girls who took a long time to get ready. ]
Sounds perfect. See you soon.
[ Beth manages to get to the coffee house first, sitting at one of the outside tables with two coffees in takeaway cups so they'll stay warm for when Rick arrives, one very strong coffee for him. For someone who spent most of their night in a bar, she looks surprisingly fresh, her hair in one long braid hanging over one shoulder. ]
[ The moment he walked up and saw Beth already sitting there, his heart started to speed up. A feeling he hadn't experienced in so long and he found himself enjoying it rather than wanting to turn from it as he expected. ]
Beth. Happy to see ya again. [ he greeted before he sat down across from her and gratefully reached for the coffee to sip at. ]
Everyone's been askin' bout you, wonderin' if you're comin' to the picnic this weekend. If you wanna come I mean I'd be real happy.
[ Beth's heart races in a similar fashion and she's a little disappointed when he sits down too fast for her stand up and greet him with a hug or a kiss on the cheek (or both), but hopefully she'll get another opportunity to later. ]
You too, Rick. Hope you don't mind that I ordered for you. It's a hangover special, apparently.
[ She ducks her head shyly at the idea of everyone asking about her, but looks up again with a smile at his invitation. Especially when he says it would make him happy. ]
I've never said no to a picnic before... I ain't gonna start now. I suppose everyone wants me to bring my guitar for entertainment?
[ He returned the shy smile with one of his own, continuing to drink the coffee, his mind whirling with thoughts. The others were teasing him constantly but he found Beth worth it, which really made him realize a thing or two. The fact he wanted Beth to be apart of his life enough to be teased about. He hadn't felt like that for anyone since Lori passed and it changed a lot of things. In a better way than he would have anticipated before.
At her acceptance, the smile widened and became much happier. Pleased. ]
Glad to hear it and course. You're expected to play some of your songs. Daryl's comin' too.
[ The wedding question still loomed in between them, though, but so far Beth hadn't asked and he didn't want to make things awkward. She might have someone else in mind or wanted to go alone. Not everyone enjoyed dates to weddings. ]

[ Beth can’t help but smile at Rick’s friendship with Daryl. ]
You’re one of the few people who can make him smile. [ So’s Beth - she noticed it at the bar last night. She likes that Rick is able to bring the softer side out of their usually grumpy friend. ] It’s sweet.
[ She’d expect nothing less from Rick though; he was a sweet man, no doubt tough when he needed to be because of his job, but she was drawn to what a kind gentleman he was. None of the guys her own age were like that. They thought dick pics were romantic and that definitely wasn’t Beth. ]
Only if I get to pay half the bill. [ Rick seems like the type to pay all of it and he already bought the majority of her drinks last night. ] Deal? [ She holds out her hand for him to shake on it. ]
[ The friendship with Daryl while unexpected made him really happy, the same way Beth managed time and time again. Something he knew Judith really joined in on because Beth happened to make her love school even more. It meant a lot to Rick, a direct contrast to Carl at the same age.
The deal she made, though, had him laughing. ] If you insist. [ He drank the rest of the coffee, a little less headachy than before. But he knew he had more than just the coffee to thank. ]
Wedding is sure approachin' soon. [ He still wondered where her head was with it but lost the nerve each time to be more direct about it. ] Glenn keeps worryin' bout his vows.
Sure is... [ And with every day that went by, Beth could imagine herself attending while hanging off Rick's arm. By now she was sure even if her favorite musician offered to go with her to the wedding, she'd still choose to go with Rick. ]
Dunno why he's worryin' so much... I'm sure he'll come up with something really sweet and romantic. [ He was that sort of person since the day they met - Beth had noticed from the sidelines - constantly wanting to make Maggie feel loved. They complimented each other well and while she was obviously happy for her sister, she did wonder if she'd ever find a love like that. ]
[ Ask her! Ask her! The words were nearly a yell in his mind but he couldn't seem to voice anything close to his thoughts. He wanted to know if she decided on a date or if she chose the solo route instead. Wouldn't she have already asked him if she wanted him to go with her? ]
Workin' on your speech? Bout got mine done.
[ Being best man still surprised him but he took it very seriously. The Greene's meant a lot to him and so did Glenn. ]
Ya know how he is. Always worryin' bout being good enough. We all see it but he's still got to. Bet he will at the weddin' when he sees how Maggie looks at him walkin' down that aisle.
[ Just like Beth, he wondered if he would ever find love. Again, actually. ]
