Without a shadow of a doubt, Bucky knew he shouldn't stay there with Matt. Their collective scars numerous and glaringly obvious against the backdrops of shadows churning around them. Some worse than others because there were a few with names and plans. All of which they could not hide from. Could that find a way to heal with one other or would they only burn?
A sound of rustling quickly roused Bucky and he moved within a blink of an eye to ready himself. Old habits were so hard to break but luckily he saw Matt before he started in on surveillance mode. Idiot. "You're going to get blood on that," he remarked, the bloody knuckles a stark contrast against the pure white shirt. Well, but exactly pure anymore. "Where are you going so early?" he continued, unaware of it being already five in the evening.
"Here," he offered, settling back into the bed on his knees after he grabbed for the first aid kit, another shirt and a tie. "First your hands, then the clothes." He started unbuttoning the shirt, hand sliding over Matt's skin in a completely unnecessary way.
"Trying not to." One of these days he'll run out of unblemished shirts and have to start wearing vests or something to cover the stains. Silk is a bitch to clean, but he can't stand to spend all day with the scratchy fabric of cheaper business shirts against his skin.
The fact that his mind is running off on a tangent like that is a sure sign he's not getting enough sleep. Having Bucky there with him helps, but the man has his own demons and sometimes neither of them manages more than a couple of hours. The fact that the soldier was in bed at this hour is a good thing in Matt's opinion. You have to take whatever ease you can get when it comes.
He smiles as he lets himself be fussed over, waiting for the rapid-fire questions and remarks to die down before speaking. "Sorry I startled you." The sudden transition from a slow heartbeat to a rapid one was a dead giveaway. "Don't need the change of clothes, I'm home for the night. Just...took an unplanned detour."
"You mean you're going to stay with me all night?" Bucky asked as he slid the shirt off and set it aside, eyes flickering over the skin to see where the source of the bleeding had come from. Sometimes Matt bled onto his own clothes but sometimes it happened to be from someone else. Usually, he could tell rather easily but the groggy sleep haze kept messing with him still. He needed a few more minutes to be his usual on alert self.
"When's the last time you've eaten?" Bucky asked rubbing one of the cloths over Matt's torso. Matt would hear his heart speeding up now for an entirely different reason.
"Yeah, if you're okay with that." Sort of a ridiculous thing to say, since this is Matt's apartment and Bucky was asleep in his bed. But sometimes they both need their solitude, and Matt would go and spend the evening at his office if the other man asked him to.
It doesn't seem that's going to be the case, though, not with the way Bucky is touching him, taking care of him. Matt smiles around a cut lip, reaching for one of Bucky's hands to reassure him. "It's mostly the other guy's. I'm not bleeding out."
So there's no need to worry about hurting him, and no need to rush over getting him cleaned up.
Although food and a shower do sound pretty tempting. He answers the first question with a guilty tilt of the head. "This morning, toast and coffee. It was a busy day." And a busy previous night, and a busy day before that. Too much to do, not enough hours to fit it all in. And Bucky in the midst of it all, being neglected when their time together has been the best thing in Matt's life for ages.
"Just order delivery. It's easier." And should give enough time for him to try and coax the other man into the shower with him.
