[ At the dramatics, a smile twitched at the corners of Steve's lips. The fella needed to watch it or he might develop actual feelings, which neither lf them needed. Tony was well out of his league and two men faced far too many issues with being together. If anyone found out it could be the end, a fact Bucky informed him of often enough. ]

What are ya goin' pay me in? Smiles and snark?

[ With a wider grin, he started to pull things out to make it soup. Not the best but they at least had meat, potatoes and a few vegetables to go in it. More than they usually had. ]

How are ya with choppin'?

I might. I've been told I've got a good smile.

[He said it with all the dignity he could muster, which wasn't much considering he still had his head tipped back. Though he did find himself forced to lift it enough to give Steve a look at the question.]

I can probably manage to keep from including any fingers, if that's what you mean. Are you seriously going to put an inured man to work?

Not bad. [ the words were out of his mouth before he thought better of saying such a thing. With a thin blush staining his cheeks, he set down a knife, chopping board and the veggies in front of Tony. ]

You need to not accidentally fall asleep and bein' put to work will ensure that.

[ with a stern look, he stood there, waiting to see if Tony would get to chopping or not. ]

[Tony stared back at him, deadpan, then finally shoved himself up fully upright with a quiet groan and closed his eyes for a moment until the room stopped spinning. Christ, he hated concussions.]

Fine, fine. Slavedriver.

[And he did in fact grab for the knife and settle himself to pull everything together and start cutting it into neat cubes. Not that he was planning on admitting it, but having something to focus on was helping the headache a little. And people always yelled at him for going back to the workshop after he'd taken a headshot.]

Thank you. [ Turning his back, he went back over to the countertops to start working on putting dinner together. He only paused when he heard a knock on the door. With a frown on his face he went to answer it, relieved to only see their downstairs neighbor with a pie in hand. He thanked her and they chatted a few minutes before he shut the door back. ]

Hope you like apple.

[ he worried more about Bucky arriving home. ] You might wanna change. Might be somethin' I can find that'll fit you. Almost done with this.

Change?

[That pulled Tony’s attention away from where it had been very firmly fixed on his knife, head lifting to give Steve a confused look.]

What’s wrong with what I’ve got? [Besides the rips and occasional bloodstain, presumably.]

You look like you've been sleeping outside for a week. Go on. I'll leave ya somethin' in the bedroom. When you get back everythin' should be done.

[ He made a shoo motion with his hand, hoping Bucky would come home in Tony's absence to be able to explain the circumstances. ]

Still feel like there's more ya gotta talk 'bout.

[Tony gave him an utterly baffled look, but allowed himself to be chided up out of the chair and towards the bedroom -- Steve's?

It only occurred to him a moment later how exactly anything of Steve's was going to fit him, but if nothing else he'd learned the tone of voice Steve got when he was done being argued with. It oddly didn't sound much different on a much smaller frame.]

Like what?

[ Following after Tony, Steve pulled out a couple of Bucky's things for the other man to wear. It would have to do for now and they'd work something else out later. ]

Go shower and I'll finish up things. We can talk then 'bout where to go from here.

Uh. Sure.

[He shook his head a little, still feeling more than slightly bemused, but made his way towards the tiny bathroom without much more complaint.

He'd blame the concussion, but it wasn't until he was under the (sad) stream of water that it registered exactly who's clothing he was apparently going to be borrowing. And that was...something he was not equipped to deal with at the moment. Instead, he spent his time eyeballing the showerhead and wondering exactly how much of the plumbing he'd have to replace to make the thing not suck.

But there was only so long he could stand there, even if it did feel nice. He wrapped a towel around himself as best as he could and hoped Steve had vanished back into the kitchen as he eased himself towards the bedroom. He felt oddly self-conscious about every bruise and scrape and scar he was currently decorated with. He was a mess, clearly, and only most of it was recent.]

[ No such luck Tony but only because Steve wanted to make sure nothing happened. Concussions tended to complicate things and how could he explain someone unconscious in the shower? When Tony emerged, Steve had all sorts of things to say but it all fled his mind at the state of his skin. Oh.

Without thinking, Steve moved forward and pressed his fingers gently on the marks and bruises. This guy had a bigger story than he wanted to admit to looking like that. ]

Been in a lotta fights huh? [ Something Steve could relate to. ] You -- should probably get dressed.

[ Clearing his throat and with his heart pounding, he returned to the kitchen to dish up food for them. ]

[Tony blinked once as Steve drifted closer and then vanished again just as quickly, but all he did was huff out a quiet sigh. Not like he had any real way of explaining himself anyway.

Instead, he focused on gingerly slipping into the clothes that had been left out, concentrated even more on not thinking about who they belonged to, and went to hang the towel back up before he padded back out into the other room to find his erstwhile host.]

So hey. I'm...pretty handy. And it seems like I owe you. If I'm gonna be here for a bit, I could probably fix a few things. If you wanted.

[ Luckily, it seemed Bucky had decided to go to one of the dance halls after work and would probably be late getting back home. It gave Steve more time to think and plan out what to say to not have Buck flip his lid over some stranger. The lover bit might work if they were able to be convincing enough with it, which he doubted.

Placing everything onto the dishes, he sat them on the table, looking up slowly when Tony entered. There were so many secrets there and sadness lingered so strongly in the other man's eyes. What had he been through? ]

Come on, must be hungry.

[ He sat down, picking up his napkin to put in his lap. ] Are you? What kinda things you fix?

[He was kinda hungry, actually, now that he thought about it. Maybe the shower had helped with his head a little, as sad as it had been.

Though Tony couldn't help giving a quiet puff of a laugh as he settled down at the table.]

Pretty much anything, and I do mean that literally. Just point me at what you want dealt with first.

[He had enough manners not to just fall onto the food. But only barely.]

[ The words pieced together a little more about Tony but not much, leaving the man to still be largely a mystery. He really wanted to know why someone looking like him ended up in their of the city. Something illegal had to be the cause but he wanted to try and keep an open mind.

Slowly eating his food, Steve tilted his head to the side. ]

You good with your hands?

[ He actually knew how that one sounded and felt pleased with himself for it. Bucky would be so shocked. ]

Just 'bout everything around here is broken or somethin. Is that what ya do to make money? Fixin' stuff?

[It's probably a good thing that Tony chokes a little, since it keeps him from immediately responding with quite a few things that he really shouldn't. It takes him a moment to get himself back under control, and by then there's a much more innocuous question he can answer.]

More or less. I build things, too.

[That one's probably going to be a lot harder with the materials at hand, though.]
