"Could you be happy here with me?"

The words weren't anything Zelo ever expected to hear, especially not from emotionally closed off Sage. But he allowed them to roll around in his mind a bit before he sat up to look at the other man full on. The moonlight filtered onto Sage's face and made him glow, nearly brighter than the stars he missed so much from his home world. "Here at the swamp?" He finally asked, picking at blades of grass below him. "I - it doesn't work like that. Happy doesn't really matter when you're cursed." Maybe just maybe he was emotionally closed down too. But still. "Yes." He spoke it softly, turning his body to shift closer to Sage. "Yes."

The witch didn't mean to ask the question, honestly. It was one of those thoughts that he thought would be better off not having an answer, and not just because he knows that there is no guarantee of how long Zelo can be here. It was a question that opened up a whole other can of worms, questions about what was happiness and what about here could really entail. Did Sage mean in this universe or did he mean with Sage wherever that might be?

Sage isn't sure what he would do with the answer either way. Isn't really sure what to do with the question in the first place actually, but-- here is is. Asking questions that he shouldn't ask.

And getting answers that he doesn't know how to process.

There is a moment of silence while Sage processes what is being said, at how Zelo hasn't just gone with philosophy and idle thoughts but has actually answered him. Has answered him and turned towards him in a way that has Sage winding fingers into the dragon's hair without a thought and leaning in that little bit more as well.

"Oh." It is a quiet noise, barely audible as Sage tears his gaze away from the lines of Zelo's face to look at the stars above. "I would wish for that, you know. For you to be happy. Even if it wasn't here."

The breath all but escaped his lungs, mingling with air and smoke because one way or another everything turned to fire in his life. Sometimes in a good way, the flickering flames dancing along underneath his skin to keep him warm and connected to all he lost over the years. But other times, it scorched him and left soot in his mouth, a never ending reminder of the damage the flames could cause. The sheer devastation in the aftermath. Yet, none of it compared to the destructive powers of Sage moving closer to him, not in just a physical sense but an emotional one as well.

It had been so long - centuries, even, since he last mingled with anyone. It would make the nightmares come and he'd have to watch Sage die over and over again without any way to stop it.

The witch really didn't deserve someone cursed to move in closer, to set up residence and leave a part of himself behind.

Leaning into the touch, he closed his eyes briefly. "I'm - happy here with you." The words shook him to his fiery core and he moved closer, eyes flashing gold when he opened them, unable to keep the balance between the shifts. "I almost forgot what happiness is."

His lips lightly brushed along Sage's, his hand settled tightly clutched along his hip.

Smoke and ash, fire and shadows, they are all things that Sage has dealt with in his life. They are not new, he is familiar with the feeling of ash in his mouth and knows what fire feels like when it blisters your hands and licks at the marrow of your bones. He is used to anything that burns brightly just burning in general and, for the most part, he is okay with that. Except Zelo burns so much brighter than what he is used to, with a warmth that flickers and glows but doesn't burn.

At least not yet.

Sage knows they this is reckless, that they are already in the bottom half of the hourglass that they were given and there is no do-over from them, not in this life.

Still, the witch doesn't take his fingers from Zelo's hair, doesn't take back the truth of what he would wish for as the dragon leans closer, presses himself and his golden eyes a little more into the cracks of Sage's fractured heart. Zelo deserves more than him, a wild swamp witch from the backwaters of Texas, but that doesn't stop him from leaning in a little more, chasing the warmth of Zelo's lips.

"... we can remind each other." Happiness, Sage thinks, will damn near destroy you. Builds you up and takes you higher than you ever have been before, then vanishes leaving you to hit the ground hard. But it might be worth it, he thinks as he watches the gold flicker to life in those eyes, feels the heat burning against his hip. "Not the best with it myself, honestly."

Softness never really fit into the confines of his life plagued by one curse and the next. Resulting in a weariness that he never found a moment of relief from and it undid him, constantly, and he felt like a wound, which would never heal properly. And maybe it shouldn't with the blood soaked damage of his past. Maybe he deserved every moment of pain and heartbreak.

Sage, though, made him feel capable of so much more. A dangerous concept of what could be out there just within grasp for him. Happiness, hope, belonging and a family he lost nearly as time began for the people of earth. With Sage, he could have something but didn't the man deserve so much better than him? Someone not cursed for one thing.

Curling even closer and practically in Sage's lap, Zelo kissed him again and again. The coolness of Sage acted like a balm to his never ending raging fire. It cooled him and he almost hungered for it. He could be more than flames and smoke, softness existed and so did stillness.

"Not surprised," he whispered against Sage's lips, his own curling up at the edges. "I have a list of things to teach you." He pulled back, eyes searching Sage's for a moment. "All I need is - you to stay." A hard thing to admit, his heart - his everything, splattering between them, waiting for Sage to stomp on it all or accept it. Accept him.

If Zelo were to ever ask him, were to ever voice the thoughts of what he might or might not be deserving of, he would tell the dragon, in no uncertain terms, that he has enough blood on his hands and shadows in his bones to decide who and what he is deserving of. That if anyone is deserving of more in this, it was not him. Zelo has spent an eternity that he cannot even begin to fathom repenting for something Sage will never understand, and that has not made him cruel.

Sage only has a quarter of a century worth of dirt under his nails and he already has more sharpness to him than Zelo ever will. More bitterness. If this could make him happy, if these brief moments with him in the grass under cold stars that were already dead, then Sage would fucking give them to him, his sense of deserving be damned.

"A list, huh?" A ghost of a smile on his lips, even as the warmth is taken from him, as Zelo moves back and looks at him like he might have the strength in him to leave, to walk away from this. Once upon a time, fuck, when they first met, Sage would have walked away. Would have left with a hollow apology and his heart in iron, but now--

Now Sage knows there is no way to walk away unscathed. Not anymore.

So Sage kisses Zelo like he casts spells, with passion and fury and wild magic that leaves his lips tingling and the faint taste of ozone in his mouth. Sage pulls Zelo impossibly closer and presses fingertips into his skin like that might keep the dragon from being whisked away from him through space and time. Like he might be able to hold Zelo together through stubbornness alone.

"As long as you want me to." It will hurt, eventually. This will crack him open and maybe bleed him dry, but-- yeah it would be worth it, if he managed to give Zelo some sense of happiness.

Through it all or in spite of it all, Zelo managed to retain his sense of awe and wonder of the universes, capturing each strand of it to clutch between carefully poised fingers. He enjoyed learning about the spaces around him, slipping between them to try and find a nook for himself. A place of rest, a beginning without any true ending. He never managed an ending, even with all his long lived years but he did capture a different kind of magic sometimes. The one that only existed in rare moments such as the one currently stretching out before him.

What could be more magical and wondrous than someone so hardened opening up to the overwhelming unknown? It enraptured him, focused every inch of him down until he only saw the essence of Sage. All fire and fury but also cool tides underneath his skin. It swept him up, rocked him back and forth in the closest thing he ever found to peace.

The kiss unwound him more and he gave everything of himself in response. Lips moving quickly and deeply with an underlying sense of desperation he never allowed to show. Every cell screaming please; for more, to stay, and to not shatter the precarious witch barely held together to begin with.

They pressed together and Zelo wound himself around Sage as if they could melt into one person and never exist alone again. "Always," he whispered into Sage's neck as if the witch could promise such a thing, make good on it and never let him go.

He kissed him again, hands running everywhere he could reach with how close they were.

If there is one thing that Sage knows about the universe, it is that it is not always a kind place. Sure there are pockets of magic and wonders, flickers of brilliance and love in the dark, but Sage knows that there are shadows and monsters that wear smiling faces too. Knows that there are just as many people out there seeking to ruin as there are seeking to build up, and he hates that he has forgotten about the kindness and warmth.

Until Zelo.

They didn't start off with thoughts of staying, or even lingering; Sage was looking for a warm body to get lost in and Zelo happened to find him. It was supposed to be a one night stand, a fling that didn't dig up the skeletons in Sage's closet, or bare the wounds that still hadn't fully healed over to another person. It wasn't supposed to end with Sage letting someone in again because he knows that only leads to hurt. To emptiness. And yet-- somehow they ended up here. Tangled together in a way that left the witch scrambling to stay upright with the dragon in his lap and wishes in his blood.

Sage licks into Zelo's mouth, drags his teeth along the swell of his lips and moves to pull him closer, to wind arms around that sunfire warmth that burns the ice right out of his chest and pulls Zelo into his lap. There are hands on his skin, leaving trails of want and adoration in their wake and Sage hasn't felt this alive, this vulnerable, in a long time. But-- he doesn't want to stop. He wants to take that chance, despite the pain he knows it will cause. Knows that he would crack open his own ribs for this creature, would bleed again and again if it meant he could see Zelo smile.

"Okay. I can-- okay." Promises, binding words, pressed hushed to the curve of Zelo's jaw as he tightens his grip, shudders under the weight of realization that he means that. He really will stay as long as he can, as long as Zelo wants him to be there.

Even when standing still, Zelo held the distinct feeling of spinning, around and around without finding anywhere to really land onto. Nothing grounded him and he never felt any security because at any moment something would whisk him away to some place new to begin again. A constant sort of restarting and it exhausted him. Time never really offered him any kindness so he tried to make the most of what he had but never with someone else. Losing locations and friendships hurt enough but love? No, he never allowed it until Sage.

All his long lived life and he had never been in love before. Never experienced the anticipation and newness skipping along the beats of his heart, rattling along his gasping ribcage to spill all over the place. Everything, every inch of him slid into Sage's hands and he realized how much it opened up. A risk he never wanted to take before but now he did. Now, he wanted to risk everything for Sage's happiness. He wanted to be everything, honestly. An overwhelming need to be something worthy of someone wanting him to stay.

It meant more than he could ever actually express.

Letting out a low groan, he pressed even closer to Sage as if he could with being in his lap already. The words though had him tightening his grip, his breath all but leaving his lungs. Dragons never took promises lightly and they were binding in a similar way to their contracts for wishes. Did Sage know the weight of his words? Pulling back just enough to look into Sage's eyes, his heart began to beat faster. Oh. No one had ever looked at him in such a way and to think they weren't even supposed to be a thing.

With a new rising need, he pulled at Sage's shirt to get rid of it and press hands and kisses all over newly exposed skin. Another groan tumbled from his lips and he pressed closer again, his hips shifting forward without being able to stop it. "Always want you."

Another biting and searching kiss. "Always want to be with you."

THE BEGINNING OF THIS THREAD SAYS OTHERWISE

[personal profile] muskeg 2018-01-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sage should have known from day one, when Zelo managed to stay long past the acceptable time for a one night stand, that he was in trouble. That this was going to cost him more than a hangover potion and a begrudging compliment about how the other really did make the best pancakes that he has had, ever. That there was something about gold eyes and bright smiles that would be able to press so seamlessly into the cracks left behind by life and love crashing into him and moving on despite the mess they made.

Sage never stood a chance, really.

Zelo is everything in life that he adores; brilliance and laughter, the willingness to try again and again despite whatever might be thrown their way. He was optimism and ancient and so fucking beautiful it make Sage's chest hurt. The other managed to be kind, honestly kind, even after so long being tossed from place to place, denied the comfort and security of settling down like so many wanted. It was more than a little admirable. Sage had lived but a fraction of life and was more than a little bitter and sharp around the edges. But he still wants. Wants to make Zelo happy, wants to see him content and not scrambling for purchase in a universe that has more darkness that fire. Sage wants to show Zelo that he wants him, not wishes or magic, doesn't want empty promises or fleeting pleasure. He knows that so many have sought just that from the other (and from himself) and he refuses to let that stand.

So when his shirt is pulled off, Sage lets it go and presses himself to the heated skin, presses his lips to the angle of Zelo's collarbone and lets his words, his promises, sink into the skin the same as his fingertips against sharp hips. "Promise-- I promise Zelo. As long as you want, as long--"

The words get lost in a low noise, pleasure awakening bright and sharp when Zelo rolls his hips, Sage responding easily. The witch doesn't know where this is coming from, isn't sure where this need is rooted, but he also doesn't care as long as Zelo keeps kissing him like that, keeps his hands on his skin and holds him together.

"'Lo, Zelo," Sage's fingers tremble against the dragon's hips, breath shallow as he holds that bright gaze. "I'm here. I'm-- we're here. Okay."

The first time Sage huffed at him but still relented to his presence should have told him enough, given plenty of a prediction of things to come. But he ignored the signs and tried to fool himself it would end the way every other possible fumbling interaction eventually did. Little did he know then and even right at that second how much Sage would come to mean to him. How he meant everything his drifting life of tumbling ever put together. It swirled his mind around, blurred the edges into a warm glow to set his heart aflame in rolling waves rather than the usual inferno. It spread throughout him and brought a sense of peace he never felt, especially with how much unknown the curses brought his way.

Letting Sage's presence wash over him, he pressed closer, chasing it to take everything else away. He only wanted to focus on Sage and not think about what could pull them apart or question too much about anything else with them. It worked; they worked and he didn't need to know anything else. Sage wanted him and he didn't really need more, the promises only made it better, though, each one soothing wounds he hadn't known existed along his skin and heart.

More than anything else, Sage kept him rooted and not floating off somewhere else, whether physically or figuratively. A stability existed between them and Zelo never knew he had been missing out for so long. He lost his family so long ago but it hit him how Sage gave him an actual true home he never had before. They were building something together and he couldn't have ever anticipated it. He couldn't imagine ever losing it.

Shaking slightly, he gripped onto Sage to keep them close to one another. His hips rolled again, head only lifting to look at Sage when he heard him speak. The words shook him right down to his core and his heart squeezed tightly in his chest. Oh. "Together," Zelo rasped out, lump rising in his throat, driven by the emotions swirling around them. "I'm with you. I'm here. I'm here." Clearly, Sage needed to be reassured as well. "Sage - I -" Shaking his head, he pulled his shirt off and dropped it on the ground to feel more of Sage against him.

Before Sage was pushed into the world of spells for hire and muddied magic that is just as much blood and bone as it was belief, Sage believed in those once upon a time stories that he was read at bedtime. He believed that there were happily ever afters to be found, and that there was goodness in the universe between the stars to keep the darkness at bay. This was before he found out that he was a witch, before he realized that he wasn't the kind to get a happily ever after but rather the one that would be killed when his use ran out.

The arrival of Zelo, all golden smiles and shining laughter, made Sage want to remember again though. Made him want to fight for a happily ever after that the world though he didn't deserve, a happily ever after that neither of them deserved. They were the monsters in the stories, they were the ones that needed to be cast out for the princes and princesses to live happily ever after, but-- but fuck that. Sage was going to do everything in his power to give Zelo the happiness he deserves, no matter how fleeting.

If this, being close and warm and tangled with a simple swamp witch is what makes the dragon pleased, then fuck if Sage will let anything come between them (and maybe that was why witches were feared, they were powerful and selfish and willing to burn the world down for the few that clawed their way into their hearts. Sage will watch the world burn just to save Zelo.) Sage is tired of wanting and carving out spaces of himself for a world that doesn't care beyond what he can do for others. He just wants to make sure Zelo is happy, that he has a home.

So Sage pulls Zelo closer, presses fingers against the newly bared skin, against the knobs of his spine while he whispers promises against his lips as he leans back, pulling the other with him. With the ground beneath him, Sage knows that the world is above him, the universe in bright eyes and brighter laughter. He just needs Zelo to know that he means it, means every shaken word between ardent kisses.

"Together. As long as you want, I will be with you." A shaken noise, pleasure and happiness bubbling in his throat, making Sage's tongue looser. "Whatever you want, I'm here. Please, Zelo..."

They can have this, Sage will find a way to keep Zelo here as long as the other wants to be here. Sage doesn't care what he has to do, he will forge their happily ever after out of starfire and ancient magic, out of pure will and the desire to see the other happy.

Before the cursed exile, Zelo lived in a time of great happiness and pure magic, the type to linger on the skin and light up everything else around it. There were dark times, of course, wars threatening the very foundations of what they built but the dragons always won. They were the ones keeping the very fabrics of the universe together so what did a little pain and chaos matter in the long run? With newly opened eyes, Zelo saw it in a different light and how happiness had been tailor made and carefully constructed for all of them. Freedom only loomed there as a masquerade as did peace.

On earth, things were just as complicated and not any easier but they were also filled with choices. There were categories and opportunities for everything, which meant so much to him and for some unknown reason someone like Sage had decided to choose him. Sage wanted him and not just for what he could do or what his presence meant like back home. The swamp witch saw all the breaks and just breathed into them rather than just knock it all down.

He didn't know what he did to deserve it but he only wanted to make Sage happy. To see the other let loose and feel actual joy, radiating with all the possibilities of what the universe had kindness enough to offer. They felt enough of blood and fury to last a couple of lifetimes and he would know.

Groaning, he arched into Sage's hands, each touch a balm of coolness and relief. It flooded through him, swirling along with the fire and he felt lighter because of it. Like a mist, drifting back and forth as it once had in his home universe with the stars.

They settled onto the ground and his heart began to pound even harder. "Forever," he voiced without thinking twice about it, knowing exactly the kind of commitment it stretched before them. Nearly as deeply as a wedding vow. Whatever he wanted? Everything. He wanted every little thing. Leaning in, he kissed Sage, moving down his body to cover every single inch, eventually reaching his pants but they were quickly discarded to give more skin. The coolness and heat were such a contrast but felt so good to him. He swirled his tongue before he mouthed over Sage's underwear, looking up at him with hooded eyes. Sage feeling incredible meant more to him than anything else in all the universe, whether intimately or otherwise.

This was a choice for them both; for Sage to let Zelo in, to want for him to stay just as much as it was a choice for Zelo to let Sage in. The witch wasn's stupid, he knew how much this could hurt them both, how they had both faced loss in some sense, but he knows that Zelo has had far more of it than himself. It was still startling to him, and humbling, to see how someone could lose so much but still love so deeply. It made him all the more sure that he needed to make Zelo as happy as he could for as long as he could.

Sage lets his hands wander, mapping out the expanse of skin bared to him and, sure, they have been here before but-- this is different. There is something more here this time, there is a lightness under his skin and a promise in his bones that makes each touch seem like so much more, mean more. Sage wants to memorize Zelo, wants to remember how he looks like this with his eyes wide and lips bruised from kissing Sage like that is all he wants out of life.

The way he looks when he utters always like a vow. It makes Sage stop breathing for a moment, knowing that Zelo means what he says. That he wants Sage forever, longer than he can give him as a mortal, than he can give him because of the curse but-- it makes the witch all the more sure that he will do whatever he can to make it true. He will break the curse, will find a spell to live forever, he doesn't care. He will find a way.

"Okay. Forever, that-- Zelo!" His name is a reverent gasp, fingers moving to tangle in the dragon's hair as he kisses his way down his skin, finding sensitive spots and leaving fire in his wake. By the time he reaches Sage's cock, the witch is trembling and a mess of nerve endings and sparks, but he keeps his eyes fixed on that wicked mouth, the pleased gaze that makes all the promises their words can't. "Zelo, I-- please."

There is no real focus for his pleading, just a raw want that the dragon had awoken, but Sage will take whatever he can, whatever Zelo wants to give him.

In most cases, Zelo honestly believed he did not deserve happiness and certainly not love since his clan cursed him for a reason. He went against their traditions and attempted to change the very laws that kept the universe together. Really, he should have felt lucky enough they didn't simply eliminate him and be done with it but in the end they gave him a worse fate. One where he drifted without any true sense of belonging, where he had to live with tormenting memories and dreams of what could come to pass. It left him very little relief but didn't he deseve to feel so lost? Didn't he deserve to be alone? Dragons never dealt well with solitude, strangely enough, they needed to be wanted. They needed a purpose and a meaning; all of which Zelo never found until Sage.

It flooded right through him and he didn't know what to do with feeling so much. The ebb and flow of what he now understood to be love. He had never been in love, actually, had never heard anyone say I love to him. His parents had never been the most emotional types and taught them to be stronger than the weaknesses of emotional attachments. Apparently, they failed in more ways than one with him.

Eyes drifting upwards to take in Sage's appearance, Zelo felt a twist of desire work through him, so strong it nearly crumbled him into soot. He had never wanted anyone this badly and the difference of it was not lost on him. There were emotions unlike their first time together.

He felt wanted. What a novel concept and ideal.

Sliding down Sage's underwear, he wasted little time or teasing, wanting too much to taste. He wanted to hear and watch Sage fall apart, to mean something deeper to him. Not just some one to bide time with or to indulge a few hours. Taking Sage's cock into his mouth, he sucked deeply, hollowing his cheeks and swirling his tongue here and there.

His hands trembled as he clutched onto the ground on either side of Sage's body, trying to remind himself of being grounded and not floating off. He also tried to will Sage to tug at his hair and thrust harder into his mouth.

Deserving happiness is something that Sage will argue with Zelo for a long time, he is sure of it. They are both so prone to thinking the worst, that they were somehow not worthy of things for sins they had committed in the past, though he is so very sure that whatever transgression Zelo has committed in the past are nothing as terrible as his own, that there is no way this bright and kind creature that has settled in his life could be undeserving of happiness. Zelo has been there for Sage in ways that no one else has in a long while. Has given him a place where he felt safe, wanted. Has given Sage a reason to keep on going, despite the darkness that clawed at his being.

Zelo was the softness, the kindness, the brightness that Sage needed. And fuck everything if he didn't work to keep him happy, do whatever he could to keep a smile on Zelo's face, even if that meant tearing out his own heart for the dragon. There was a line for Sage in his heart, you were either inside or outside, and at some point Zelo crossed that line. Sage couldn't find it in himself to be upset by this.

Especially not when Zelo was hovering over him like that, desire clear in his gaze. Desire and-- affection that makes his breath catch and--

"Shit, Zelo that-- " His voice catches, words tumbling into moans and noises as Zelo swallows his cock easily, makes him see stars. His fingers flex in the dark strands, hips shaking minutely as he fights the urge to rock up and take, to demand. That isn't what he wants (he desires it, god the desire in him right now is burning) not without knowing it is something Zelo is willing to give. Sage bites at his bottom lip, whines spilling free with the pressure and sensation, nails sliding against Zelo's scalp with every tremor of pleasure that rocks though him.

Sage could die happy like this, he thinks. At a particular press of his tongue, Sage gasps and bucks his hips. "Fuck, Zelo, so good, you feel so good, please-- Zelo." The name on his lips sounds like prayer, sounds like worship, and the look in his eyes only reinforces that. Sage looks down at Zelo with adoration in his gaze, beyond the physical want and desire.

Intimacy often existed as a fleeting concept in Zelo's life, a precaution for what usually happened with being whisked away but he also preferred to leave others before they could leave him. So, he never drifted too close, never allowed for his wax wings to melt in the gaze of the burning sun. Until Sage popped into his life like an unexpected comet and wrecked all of his rules, blasting them into rumble. He not only drifted too close but had allowed for his heart to open little by little. It made it unthinkable to exist without Sage and what a horrifying thought to even consider. How could someone mean so much to him in such a short time span?

Need swirled around them and he could feel the charged air shift around them, pulling them closer and closer into something unknown, completely on Zelo's end because he had never fallen in love with someone else. No wonder others went to such great lengths for it and mourned its loss so deeply. It all made better sense to him and he wanted to keep it all within his hands.

Shivering from the praise, Zelo slowly pulled off just to tell Sage, "you can fuck my mouth and pull my hair. I want you to." The words were direct but he knew Sage would blush anyway, which he found entirely endearing. More than he probably should have but beyond all the snarls existed something more fragile and gentle.

With a wink, he returned to the task, sucking Sage's cock with a groan until he hollowed his cheeks again to allow for said mouth fucking. He wanted Sage to lose himself in the pleasure and not be able to think of anything else. The bonus being watching Sage fall apart and show that vulnerability. Meanwhile, one hand moved to run over Sage's skin, leaving faint red lines with his nails.

Intimacy was something of a farce in Sage's life, so many of his escapades were in shadowy corners with people whose name he never remembers and pretends to forget the following day. They were throwaway moments that he pretends never happened and buries in the haze of tightly packed clubs and booming music. This-- this was something else entirely though. There was so much more here, in the air between them, and Sage adores it. They might be new to this, the static feeling that builds beneath their skin, but they both know how to pull pleasure from each other.

As soon as Zelo gives him permission, tells him to fuck his mouth if he wants, Sage complies with a flush burning his cheeks. The witch still makes sure that he doesn't tug on his hair too hard, knows there is a fine line between pain and pleasure there, but he doesn't stop his hips from snapping up and seeking warmth and pressure. Seeking more of Zelo.

"God, fucking love how you feel like this, you're so good to me fuck." There is awe in the cracks of his voice, mingling with desire and want. Sage really doesn't know what to do with the affection he is shown, even now there is so much more than just physical pleasure here. Neither of them are strangers to that, this is something more. Makes the pleasure burn white hot and overwhelming in his gut and it isn't long before Sage is tugging at Zelo's hair as he snaps his hips, whimper on his lips because shitshitshit, he can't hold it together much longer.

When Sage finally crashes, lets go and comes with a jerk of his hips, it is with Zelo's name on his lips, bright and reverent.

Stay. A simple word with such a looming meaning, piecing together something from the broken shards of what two people has to order. Sometimes it soothed the edges but other times it cut with the razor sharpness. A constant sort of struggle of being with someone in a real way and opening up. Zelo knew better than to allow for such an intimacy because of the risk it produced but with Sage all such common sense went out the window and he only considered having more. He longed for it in a way, reaching out to clutch onto Sage and never let go again.

Groaning when Sage finally started to let go more, his hand drifted down to roll his balls between his fingertips. His other hand clutched tighter into the ground, bringing up dirt and grass in the process. It felt better somehow than usual, an intensity rolling between them for more and his heart practically sang with the truth for all to hear. He had fallen for a boy with moonlit eyes and swamp twinged smiles.

He sensed before Sage started to come and only urged him forward. Swallowing with a pleased rumbling groan, he slowly pulled off Sage's cock, hand working him through the aftershocks. When it might be too much, he stopped and curled up beside Sage, nuzzling into him. "Taste so good," he murmured, Sage's earlier words continuing to heat him up. The praise never failed to get to him and warm him in a different kind of way. "Under the stars." He propped his head on his hand to look down at Sage, leaning in to kiss him, all thoughts of his own desire forgotten for the moment to let the witch bask in boneless warmth.

This isn't what he thought would happen when he asked that simple question, the idle thought that rattled around his brain and managed to creep out between his lips without a second thought. Sage wasn't looking to find this in the answer, but he knows that this, the willingness that Zelo has to bring him pleasure and see him come apart, means more than just release and easy company. It is a manifestation of something deeper, of the wants to be closer, to be more, to be together.

And Sage wants that, wants Zelo to be happy here, with him. Wants to let Zelo take him apart and wants to take Zelo apart in turn. Sage wants nights under the stars and mornings tangled in blankets, he wants coffee stains on the edges of his spell books and piles of stolen shiny objects hidden in the back of his closet. Sage wants to find a home is Zelo, and wants to make a home of himself for the other.

With the stars in his eyes and Zelo's name on his lips, Sage things that they might be able to make it work. They will. He will find a way to make this work. To keep them both happy, no matter what it takes.

It takes a moment for the words to come back to him, for his mind to settle in his body again, but when he does, Zelo is curled around him and nuzzling into him warm and there. With a noise that is part hum and part groan, Sage leans into the kiss, threads a hand into Zelo's hair and holds him there for a moment to enjoy the kiss. When he breaks it to speak he doesn't move far, eyes reflecting the night sky and a fragment of fear.

"You make me happy, Zelo. You do. Not just-- with this." The words come out hushed, like a secret between them, as he gestures between them. It is as if Sage was worried if he told the truth too loudly, the universe would step in and steal Zelo away. "Can-- I mean, would you maybe want..."

Fuck, why can't he just say what he means, no matter how cliched? The witch huffs, the flush on his cheeks from his orgasm deepening as he traces Zelo's face with his eyes. "Stay here? With me?"

Throughout his long life he experienced moments of happiness but he never felt bliss as he sometimes overheard others talking about. Never longed for a moment to never end because he knew better than most they always did. Why try to fight against a cursed destiny but Sage woke something long since hidden within him and he felt it deep within his bones. Bliss. Joy. And most importantly love. It curled around him, blanketed him against the worst of the darkness and screams. The nightmare muted into a monotone, only hues of green swirling around in front of him. How could one person be so heart aching beautiful? It never ceased to pull air from his lungs and make him feel caught up.

To know it went the other way meant everything to him. He made Sage happy and he could have danced from the confirmation of it. Smiling brightly, he brushed hair from Sage's eyes, his own reflecting so much adoration and affection.

"Of course I'll stay," he agreed, sitting up to fix his clothing, shifting a little bit. "You make me happy too, you know. I've never - really got this close to anyone." Not too shocking of a revelation most likely but he still wanted to be more open with Sage and give parts of himself away from his own choice to and not from the universe deciding for him.

"Do you want to stay out here?" They would have to get blankets and pillows because while Zelo could lay around naked, Sage could not. The half shift into scales and more access to his fire helped there too, though. "Or your bed?" Sometimes he thought of it as their bed but he never dared to say so. It might not be what Sage wanted, to be so tied to him.

Stretching his limbs, it never occurred to him how Sage might mean more with the words.

Taking a chance, that was what both of them were doing. There was so much here that could hurt them, things that could go horribly wrong; the swamp was not safe or kind, and Sage was not foolish enough to think that life was either. No matter how wonderful he thought Zelo to be he was also aware that letting him in, letting him close, was also letting him have a bigger piece of himself. But that-- well Sage was sure that it was worth it. The way Zelo lit up above him made his chest ache, his lungs stutter with how beautiful he was.

And he wanted Sage. Wanted to stay with him, no matter what that might bring.

Fuck, he was beyond lucky.

Running his hands through Zelo's hair, Sage pulls him closer, presses his lips to the curve of the dragon's neck and trembles a little. When Zelo sits up, taking his warmth with him, Sage makes a low noise of displeasure, fingers reaching and moving, pressing against the angle of hips and holding Zelo. Like he was afraid he might leave. Vanish.

"I don't-- wherever you want, 'lo. " The words are still quiet, rough around the edges as he watches the dragon shift and stretch, bottom lip caught between his teeth because-- fuck, he was gorgeous. Sage doesn't know if he has the words to explain it, to ask for the things he is sure he doesn't deserve, but he wants to try anyway. Maybe that was the best part of this, that Zelo made him want to try.

Pushing himself up to sit, Sage winds his arms around Zelo to pull him close against him, seeks out his gaze. "I mean it, Zelo. Stay with me. I want--"

There is a pause where he runs his hands through Zelo's hair, eyes tracing the way the strands look in the starlight. "I want you to make it your home. Your bed. I want your terrible singing in the kitchen at stupid o'clock in the morning and to find all the missing charms piled in the closet. I want-- I want you stay."

Firsts were rare for someone as long lived as Zelo but Sage kept managing the impossible and it pulled him in closer as if the witch had become what he could orbit around. It challenged him in a way, staying, choosing to chip away at hs walls to allow for moments usually hidden. Sage captivated him in ways no one else ever managed and for the first time he wanted to actually settle. A cruelty existed within the desire because of the curses and he feared every time he closed his eyes Sage would disappear, little more than a wisp of a dream.

The witch deserved better and the danger surrounding him never went away and had only mounted over the years. What if the Ancient Ones decided on a more permanent punishment? What if Sage decided they weren't worth it? He always felt difficult to tolerate for long periods of time, let alone love but Sage offered him peace and possibility. It changed everything and made him want to be a better man.

Less a monster and more of a hero of the tale. Someone worthy of Sage who had a brighter heart than all the starlight in the universe.

Curling into Sage's body when he sat up by him, he shamelessly leaned into the touch through his hair. Apparently, he loved his hair stroked, which he had never known until Sage. How could he when he never let anyone linger too long with him? Being close mattered so much to him too and Sage seemed to enjoy it. Sometimes seemed to long for it as much as he did.

Eyes flicking up when Sage tried to catch his gaze, his mouth actually fell open from the words. What? It was usually impossible to surprise him but Sage defied everything all the time. It did things to his heart. But wait. "I don't sing that terrible," he mumbled with a grin twitching at the corners of his mouth. He couldn't deny the closet since he hid all his best treasures there for safe keeping. "Yes. I would - yes." Bright smile filling his face, he kissed Sage excitedly. He had never had an actual home before and certainly not with someone he cared so much about. "Falling asleep with you and waking up with you sounds like the best thing I've ever heard." He really meant it.

"You're really sure, right?" Before he let Sage answer, he kissed him and tackled him back onto the ground, pressing lips all over him. "Yes!"
