[ Prior to escaping, not much existed in El's life except for the experiments and trying to please Papa and make him proud. It meant a lot of things were new for her, including music, which she really took to, enjoying moving around to the beats of it. The music quieted everything else down until only the song existed and she liked it. This time around, she decided on something fun to groove to. (Lucas kept teaching her new words, sometimes giving her the wrong meanings.)
The music took over everything as she shook her hips all around and waved her hands in the air. Yes. She was so caught up in it all, she didn't notice Mike until she jumped around and saw him staring there. With a gasp, she stumbled to a halt. ]
Mike! You like this music? [ Maybe that's why he didn't say anything or announce himself in any way. Without really thinking twice about it, she held out her hand for him with a smile. ]
Uh... [ He doesn't want to disappoint her by saying it's probably one of the last songs he'd ever listen to (he doesn't hate it, it's not as bad as any song by Kenny Rogers, but it's definitely a girl song.) ] I guess?
[ Crossing the room towards her, he takes hold of her outstretched hand without thinking twice about it either. ] You really like this music, huh? [ And if it made her happy - which judging by her mood, it did - he couldn't help but like it as well. ]
[ Lucky for Mike, El didn't pick up on the hesitation at all and kept the excited smile on her face instead. It also didn't embarrass her to be caught dancing because why would it? Thing did not embarrass her like they did for others. One small perk for not being raised amongst social norms. ]
It feels good.
[ She said it as if it explained everything and maybe in a way it did. Shaking her hips again, she raised their joined hands above her head. ]
[ Mostly dating someone like El who didn't embarrass easily was really refreshing - not that he had any other dating experiences to compare it to. But he heard stories from Dustin about dating girls who could take an hour to get ready, unlike El who maybe took a little while if it was a special occasion and wanted to look really nice with extra make up more attention to her hair, but otherwise was ready right there and then. Every time Mike listened to Dustin talk about something annoying a girl he was dating had done (Max liked to point he wasn't perfect and had some pretty annoying habits himself), Mike just smiled to himself because nothing about El annoyed him and he was probably really lucky to meet who felt like his soulmate from a young age.
Laughing, Mike joins in by inventing some ridiculous moves on the spot, then swings her by the hand around the room. When swinging makes them too dizzy, Mike pulls her up onto her bed to jump around on it.
Hopper is going to wonder what the hell is going on - or maybe he's used to it. At least they're dancing and not having sex, right? ]
[ While the others still referred to her as the weird girl sometimes, the cool girl had appeared as well the last couple of months as they all started to experiment and date. Apparently, other girls weren't as open minded and ready for anything as she tended to be but then again no one had been as suppressed as her either. She loved trying new things because she hasn't experienced most of them and it made her happiest to go through them with Mike. He never judged and liked to have as much fun as she did.
They spent a lot of time exploring and laughing together.
Spinning around everywhere, El couldn't hold back her delighted laughter or twirling Mike. Lucas had shown her some videos of popular dances when she asked him a couple of days ago.
They moved over onto the bed and El jumped and swished her hips as much as she could. ]
You're a good dancer. [ She smiled warmly when the song ended. ] You pick now!
You're biased. [ He accuses her with a grin. El thinks he's good at most things, even the things he thinks he sucks at. The comment boosts his confidence though. ]
Give me a sec. [ He jumps down from the bed to choose a different record. Her collection is varied since she likes a lot of genres, all influenced by the people in her life who like different kind of music they've introduced her to. In the end, he picks Teenage Kicks by The Undertones. This song he knows the lyrics too, jumping back up on the bed to sing to El. Mike prefers to air guitar to this song rather than dance, pretending he's a rock star and her bed is a stage. ]
[ The pleased smile remained on her face, the adoration crystal clear in her eyes. When it came to Mike, El really believe he could handle anything and everything. But then again, she had been there to see him accomplish more than most could. Maybe she helped a little but he had a lot more strength than he believed of himself.
She had no issues with reminding him! ]
Just honest. [ She insisted, playfully pushing him over to the record player / stereo setup to pick the next song.
When he resumed on the bed and started singing the lyrics to her, she fanned at her face in the way she watched other girls in movies when they were looking at someone dreamy.
Someone let her watch Bye Bye Birdie once and regretted it for weeks after.
Rather than air guitar, she decided to try air drums, twisting all around to give it the best she could. ]
[ It's the kind of mushiness that would make the rest of the party mime vomiting if they were around, but they're alone in a safe place to say it where he won't be judged.
When the song is over, Mike collapses on the bed, tired from the amount of energy he put into the last song, but definitely happy. ] We should definitely go to a gig this summer. You'd love it. Live music rocks.
[ The sweetness she appreciated, looking down at Mike with a kind of smile she only let out when they were alone together. She never minded the teasing, of course, and offered a lot of her own but there were some things she had a little more sensitivity to, such as showing emotions. She spent nearly her whole life trying to avoid such a thing and there were moments certain emotions just overwhelmed her. Like at the moment. Right then.
Dropping down beside Mike, she ran her hand over his cheek fleeting. ]
I'm happy. [ She confessed even if the look on her face made it obvious.
Live concert? Yet another thing she hadn't experienced. ]
Do you dance? [ She knew she liked dancing with Mike! ]
What other things? [ She wanted to know everything he wanted to try. ] Dustin told me about bowling?
[ Her face does make it obvious what she's feeling right now, as it often does when it comes to her emotions, but it's always nice to hear her confirm her happiness. His cheek turns warm after she passes her hand over it. ]
You can dance but there's not a lot of room because of how packed it can be with people... You can jump up and down, though.
[ There's a reason why Mike hasn't taken El bowling - he sucks at it. But he can imagine she'd find it fun and now he feels bad about never taking her (thanks, Dustin). ] We can go bowling... I'm just not very good at it. [ He wouldn't be able to impress her playing it and he'd definitely need the barriers up. ]
[ Learning about things with Mike at least excited El and made her eager to not only find more out but to experience all of it. Mostly with Mike but also with their other friends, a group she slid more into all the time. Sometimes, she found it a little difficult to relate but Mike never allowed her to be left out. ]
We're good at jumping. [ She remarked, wiggling around onto her stomach to look down at Mike with a shift smile. A tenderness she never experienced before him. ] Might be better than you think.
[ Did she imagine helping him? Yes, but secretly! Besides how hard could it be? ] He showed me things. Do you like lasers? [ Yes, Dustin opened her eyes to laser tag, having to explain for twenty minutes it wouldn't hurt anyone. It always worried her.
Eyes lifting to their drinks on the other side of the room, she pulled them over, dropping into awaiting hands. Something simple didn't harm her, only big displays of her abilities weakened her. ]
We are. [ He doesn't point out that it's impossible to be bad at jumping. As for his bowling skills... ] I guess it has been a while since I last played, maybe I'd be better now...
[ Not to mention, it'd be fun to teach Eleven how to bowl and do it the way boys taught girls when they were on a date like in the movies. The boys and Max might roll their eyes at them if they were there too, but they've had more than enough time to get used to Mike and Eleven being a too cute couple. ]
You mean like laser tag? [ Mike still gets an awed expression on his face watching El use her powers to levitate the drinks. He'll never get over how cool she is. ] Yeah, it's awesome. You can pretend like you're in Star Wars.
