"My fingers didn't touch the cheese in the pot," Steve reasoned with a slight grin on his face, some of the cheese beginning to slide down his fingers as he waited for Howard to take the offered bite. His eyes widened when he decided to do so with his mouth and not fingers. Oh. It remained him if the times he found himself staring at Howard out of the corner of his eyes to not be obvious. Between Howard and Peggy, his prior to the plane life had been complicated. But in the end, everything revolved around Peggy.

"Oh," Steve remarked oh so smoothly, eyes still wide. "How did it taste?" Slowly, he dropped his hand to reach for the fork to try a piece of bread, mostly to keep his hands occupied and his mind from drifting somewhere else. "Did this mean you went to another antique place? Get anything else good?"

If things had been different between them - if he hadn't thought Steve would probably faint from the shock - Howard might have licked the cheese off his fingers, too. But instead, he just handed him a napkin to wipe his fingers off.

"Pretty good," he replied, one of his habitual smirks on his face. "Guess I got the mixture right after all." He'd usually had Jarvis around to make the fondue for him in the past - one of the many reasons why he missed the man in the twenty-first century, besides his simple company.

"Got a few more records to listen to." He was currently exploring the wide variety of music that had been released in the time he'd- skipped? Howard wasn't sure what to call it. "Pink Floyd, Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Aerosmith." He'd just grabbed the albums at random, not really knowing or caring who any of the artists were.

"You did a really good job," Steve agreed with a wide and pleased smile on his face. "Before I know it, you're going to outdo me with cooking." Actually, not the hardest thing in the world to do given Steve's very limited skills but he handled easy things well! A slow process of trying to do more, though. "You're adapting easier than I did overall." It made him happy to see Howard fitting in and enjoying what the current era offered.

Listening to the records, he smiled even wider. "Really great options! I love the Beach Boys and Elton John." He paused for only a moment before adding, "Let's listen! You can see what you might like. I'm pretty sure you'll like the Elton John attitude of his music." More showy and powerful lyrics.

"Sure thing." Howard would've been just as adept at pulling the music up on his phone, but there was something satisfyingly physical about the albums that even someone who embraced progress as much as he did had to appreciate. Plus he liked being able to flip through the eclectic selection at the stores he shopped at. Sure, buying everything online and having it delivered to your door had its perks, but Howard had always liked shopping normally.

"We can listen to music while we eat. Almost as good as being at a jazz club." Nightlife these days was a lot different from what he was used to, and definitely lacking in live entertainment - among other things.

To say the least, it made Steve incredibly happy to have Howard there with him as if his very presence returned so much of what he lost. Howard resembled the life he knew before when things made sense and he had a stronger purpose. More than just being the man with the plan or the one out of time. He mattered and Howard looked at him to remind him that he did. The grin widened on his face and he gave a slight nod to his head. Yes, perfect.

"There are some jazz clubs and more old fashioned places around. I've found them when I got exploring," Steve began, "Maybe we could go to one together. It might make you feel like you stepped back in time."

He finished setting up the food and motioned for Howard to join him. "You'll have to let me know what you think. I've been listening to a lot of music lately. There's a lot of years to cover."
