[Ava didn't like most people. But Gwen Stacy had been different. Bright, and charming, and someone that she couldn't help but be drawn to. SHIELD had put her in highschool in NYC after everything that had happened. After the trauma she'd been through, Coulson thought it would be good for her to be close to Sana, and put in a normal school so she could meet people that weren't SHIELD agents-- whether Ava thought that she needed to or not.
Fitz and Simmons had been able to build her bracelets that dampened her powers, so she could go through the school day without having to worry about causing a blackout because she was stressed about presenting a project to the class. Up close she could still be the equivalent of a nasty taser, but she had to try.
Of course, Ava still wanted to be a hero, and when Electro happened, it had seemed like something she could stop. Something she was supposed to stop. She wasn't the one that did, in the end, but she'd helped. And it had connected Ava and Spider-man, which all leads back to why she's here now.
She'd gotten here late. Too late had been what she'd thought at first. Ava was standing on the ground, there was no way for her to reach them, and she felt so helpless, her heart twisting in hurt and fear as Gwen's life literally dangled in the balance. The clock pulls apart, gears flying in the air, and Gwen's falling. Peter's diving after her, but Ava's good at angles, still has Natasha's battlemath and she knows: he's going to fail.
The truth is she got here just in time.
Ava clicks off the bracelets that dampen her powers, and they chime and bounce as they hit the ground, then she slams a hand against the wall, letting her powers fill the space. Her entire focus is on Gwen. That blue light starts over her heart, changing her eyes, rippling over her skin as energy rapidly fills the space, climbing up the building. It's electric, criss-crossing and intersecting, and it looks dangerous, but when it touches Gwen there's no shock- it's like the feeling of a coming lightning storm, that hum on your skin and the tremble to the air.
Ava doesn't breathe, she's so focused on this one thing: saving Gwen. Because she can't-- she wont let her be another Alexei, someone else she cared about dying at her feet. Gwen's not falling anymore, she's floating as Ava's power turn her inertia into electricity and light and sends it up the clocktower, a glowing spire of blue, the falling debris frozen in place. Harry and Peter get a slight shock, but mostly her power just floods upward into the night.
--The webbing never goes taut, Gwen's neck doesn't break.
Ava reaches up, catching the other girl's hands with her own, a shy sort of smile rising on her face. She doesn't wear a mask, just her white catsuit, so there's no disguise, no pretending that it isn't the shy redhead from Gwen's senior year at school. Her powers fade, eyes dimming back to just their usual bright blue, and Peter breaks the line so Ava can pull her down to her feet.]
Uhm- Hey. Are you- I didn't- You're okay?
[Maybe the way she stumbles on her words isn't classy, but the adrenaline is pumping in her so fast she can barely think straight. Honestly, Ava can hardly believe what her eyes are telling her, that she saved her, that she is not cursed to lose everyone that makes her feel something. She sort of feels like she wants to kiss her, but she's going to blame that on the adrenaline, too.]
[ Once, Gwen enjoyed a relatively normal life, enjoying school and looking to her future with all the ways she wanted to change the world. Science mattered so much to her and she only wanted to leave her own mark, finding a way into the lines of Stark Industries to make such a thing happen. Tony Stark just so happened to be a visionary and she knew interning there while finishing up school would give her an edge. Something incredibly needed with how cut throat things were in the scientific community. So many trying to accomplish the same goals she set for herself.
With such a clear cut life direction, how did her focus shift at all? Odd things. Odd things in the shape of a web slinging boy and others no one could easily explain. It shook her to the core because science could not explain any of it. In fact, nothing logical could at all. Some had abilities far beyond their own understandings and it drove her to find out more and to help.
She needed to help now that she knew the truth of the matters.
This stubborn resolution led her to a crumbling clocktower, heart in her throat at the realisation. The fall would kill her, yanking away all the dreams and goals right from her grasp. Heat flooded over her, heart pounding so hard it hurt as her body trembled violently in the fear. In the sheer terror of what would happen.
The gears gave way and she started to fall through the air, wind stinging and burning her eyes on the way down. The panic so strong within her, the web barely registered but the crackling energy sure made an impression. Ripped out of her panic, confusion took over as she stopped falling.
What?
The mixed up feelings intensified as her feet landing on solid ground, trembling body sinking into Ava's to keep from crashing forward. ]
W-what? [ She managed to gasp out, arms around Ava on instinct to again keep from falling. ]
Are you - how - what - [ A head shake. ] T-thank you. You - you s-saved me.
[ The intensity of all of it proved too much and sobs began to rack Gwen's body, holding onto Ava a little tighter. ]
