Wakanda: a proud nation filled with even prouder people but such faith and belief systems led to outside forces surging with anger and resentment. So much so it could be difficult at times to tell where an enemy force really existed and originated. As high as you rose, there were so many waiting to make you fall.
A state T'challa now knew so well when he woke during what should have been an unremarkable morning. Stretching to find something very odd and different with his body. Dropping from the bed, he rushed over to a mirror and saw furry wears and whiskers looking back at him. No. What? Had something happened with the panther spirit? Concentrating on his humanity, he tried to pull on it and unfold it around him but nothing happened.
Huffing but it came out as a growl, T'challa had a sudden urge to find someone and he took over in the general direction, winding up at Sam's door. Curious.
Meowing pathetically, he scratched at the door. Hurry now, Samuel.
Sam happened to be walking by the door when he heard a strange scratching noise. He didn't see anything - or anyone - when he first opened it, but then he looked down to see a sleek black cat. There were a lot of cats in Wakanda, roaming the streets; they were sacred to Bast, and the people thought they were good luck. (Which, Sam felt, answered his original question, anyway.) But he hadn't seen any wandering around the palace, and this cat didn't have a collar.
"Hey there," he said to the cat, squatting down to be closer to him. "You get lost or something?" Sam reached out to scratch behind its ears.
Acting like a cat, how completely demeaning but he knew he had to when he needed Sam to help him out. The man being his best shot of returning to human form than any of the others. He noticed Sam's soft spot for cats in general and it should help him now. Plus, he couldn't remember how such a thing happened to him in the first place. There might be a great danger brewing on the horizon.
Swallowing down the rest of his pride, he nuzzled Sam's hand affectionately and purred in what he hoped would be a cute and endearing way. Bring him inside, Sam and figure things out, you bird brain.
"I bet you want some food, don't you?" Which was a dumb question, because Sam was pretty sure cats always wanted food. Carefully, he scooped the cat up, holding him close to his chest, and rose to his feet again. Once inside, he headed straight for the kitchen, depositing the cat on the tile floor before he went to the refrigerator.
"Chicken sound good?" He had a couple of grilled chicken breasts, and he was willing to sacrifice part of one to feed the cat. He deftly chopped the meat into bite-size pieces and set it on a saucer on the floor, along with a small bowl of water. "I'll have to ask and see if anyone's missing a cat."
Food. More like he wanted to become human again but sure some food would make everything better. Still, he allowed for Sam to scoop him up and take him inside and away from potential dangers. He couldn't remember how he turned into a cat and needed to find more information on everything. What if the others were in danger and worse happened?
Narrowed cat eyes gazed up at Sam and he wanted to swipe at him for treating him like such an animal but how would he know otherwise? He just refused to eat on the floor like an actual cat. No. No. Wait. It smelled so good and maybe just one time he couldn't eat so undignified.
Munching away on the food while situated on the floor, T'challa's tail swished back and forth happily. When he finished for the time being, he went back to rubbing against Sam's legs to try and get the man to want to keep him and not waste time looking for who he might belong to.
Sam put the empty saucer in the sink and scooped the cat up again, taking him into the living room to settle down on the couch. "Guess you wanna stay here, huh? You don't have someone to miss you?" He wasn't sure how a stray cat had gotten in the palace to begin with, but he couldn't help feeling a certain kinship with it. At the moment, he was a bit of a stray himself.
"Can't blame you, this is a pretty cushy place to stay." Sam rubbed under the cat's chin. "Just gotta find the right sucker to feed you, right?" He grinned at him. "You're lucky I like cats."
