hurt/comfort. @takesabeating
He dropped the bags onto the countertop, another form of progress! He managed to leave the apartment and make it to the grocery store all on his own. No episodes or anything. It filled him with pride but he knew he still had a long way to go and if he talked to someone it probably would have helped.
Therapy didn't work for him, though, and he flat out refused to discuss his 'problems' with a stranger. Moving towards the living room, he paused right in his tracks at the sight meeting his eyes. "Matt!" he voiced, arriving quickly to his best friend's side. "What in the hell happened to you?" The bruising around his eye looked nasty, the very same with all the cuts. The dried up blood made him frown. How long had Matt been hurting? The entire time he went out? He should have never left! "Let me get the first aid kit but you better talk right now."

"I'm fine." Damn Steve and his impeccable timing. Getting out of this is going to take a level of deception Matt isn't sure he's willing to stoop to. Not with his dearest friend. "There's a bottle of aspirin next to it."
no subject
"Who did this to you? Where are Karen and Fr-Foggy?" Steve continued, kneeling next to Matt to work on his face, placing a few bandages with gentle fingers. The cut on his arm concerned him most and didn't seem to want to stop bleeding. "Matt, you might need stitches." He let out a faint breath. "I could do it. I've got some medical training from being out on the field but it'll really hurt."
He could get by with most minor injuries and burns but certainly wouldn't replace the expertise of a well trained doctor.

God, his best friend is never going to talk to him again after this.
"They weren't with me, I'm sure they're safe at home." Maybe he can skip over the 'who' part of the question, because that's going to be a long story, and Steve probably isn't going to like it at all. He holds still while his face is tended to, giving a long sigh and a nod when the subject of stitches comes up. "It's okay, I'm used to it. Can do it myself if you'd rather not."
He nudges Steve away a little bit, just enough to carefully peel his shirt off over his head to reveal more than just a couple scars.

Matt didn't have the same luxury.
"I can do --" The rest of the words slipped right away as his eyes took in the multitude of scars on Matt's body. No, absolutely not.
Letting out a rush of breath, Steve nearly dropped the needle he just picked up. "I mean it, Matt, tell me what in the hell is going on right now. What happened? Not just NOW but with all of those scars." He felt anger bubbling up within him but he tried to swallow it all down. Matt wouldn't lie to him. He wouldn't.

Oh, okay is that how things work now?
Let's remember this when you show up barely able to drag yourself to the couch.
I heal faster than you do, let's also remember that.
no subject
And healing faster still doesn't mean you can't be killed!
no subject
Well, nothing has managed it so far, has it?

That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard, Steven Rogers, and I am a lawyer, I've heard a lot of them.
no subject
Or when someone has to come fetch you and drag you back.
Don't almost full name me, Matthew Murdock.
I'll come by when I'm done to what was it one bandaid?

Are those more civilized days so far gone?

@glaza
That has yet to be seen, Nat.
You want to go on an actual road trip?
Like just for fun? Not for hunting bad guys?
@mucked
You have to have your fun somehow, huh?
It's basically that you lick alcohol off the person's body.

[ look -- she's not complaining. the idea holds intrigue. ]
Is that right?

I'm just saying it might be an experience. It can go both ways if you do not mind getting sticky.
The only way to really understand the culture is to try things of it.

@fibbery
Remember you said you like mine too. This can go both ways.
I'm supposed to take things seriously. There's always a lot going on.
Your smile is better.
Okay, good. People have a tendency to hold things back from me.
Thinking I can't handle it.
no subject
You're allowed to be happy, and if anyone thinks it makes you any less serious about your duties, they don't know you at all.
There are a lot of reasons why someone might not share something, it doesn't always mean anything about they think of you.
no subject
The Institute is used to how my parents did things.
No, I don't accept that. Secrets tear everything apart.
Eventually, it comes out and then you've got betrayal to deal with too.
no subject
Now they'll have to get used to how you do things. And I have complete faith you will do them better than they ever did.
What if that person is afraid? It's not always simple to share things you've held close to you for years, or with someone you're worried of losing. But I do admire your honesty. And your bravery, too.
